ONLINE LEARNING & SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES DURING LOCKDOWN
I would just like to thank you for your support so far this week, which has been an unexpected start to 2021 with the Government’s announcement on Monday evening ordering all schools in England to close with immediate effect. Whilst I appreciate you may be anxious about the virus and what is to come, you have supported the school’s decisions and actions we have taken to help reduce the spread of the virus. With the exception of Key Worker’s and vulnerable children, all classes at St John’s, like the rest of the country, have moved to Online Learning. This will continue until at least February half term, in line with government requirements.
Teachers will continue to post remote learning on Class Dojo on a daily basis. Whilst it is important that during lockdown you spend quality time as a family and enjoy time together to play, bake, exercise etc, it is also essential that you dedicate regular time to support your child’s learning. As a nation we have all developed ways of working at home and as a school we are no different. Our dedicated staff team have spent additional time training how to maximise the use of Class Dojo. Whilst of course we would all prefer to teach the children in school, unfortunately we find ourselves in a position where this is not possible. So therefore we ask you to access as much of the learning as possible. Staff will be monitoring work submitted on Class Dojo Profiles each day to positively respond and support your child further. If you are having any problems with accessing online learning then please get in touch with us via Class Dojo messages or ring the school office immediately and we will be more than happy to support you.
Throughout the lockdown period we also have a group of staff who will be making welfare calls to see how, as a family, you are managing during this very difficult time. Please note this is aimed to be supportive and something parents said they liked during the last lockdown. Staff will be calling from withheld numbers and if your child wants to, on some occasions, it would be lovely to speak to them too.
In addition to Online Learning, there will be a daily post of a pre-recorded Act of Worship or an activity related to Worship to promote the spiritual development and well-being of children. This will be posted on the Whole School Story section of Class Dojo on a daily basis at 10.00am, starting on Friday 8th January 2021. Friday’s Act of Worship will be a Celebration Worship where we celebrate and reward learning throughout the week, as we normally would in school. It would be really lovely for as many children as possible to access Act of Worship and especially Friday’s Celebration Worship. Children who are learning in school will also access these Acts of Worship.
For families whose children are entitled to Statutory Free School Meals, we will update you with further details when we know more.
For any families who are struggling to access Online Leaning due to not having a fixed broadband connection in their house and rely on limited usage on their mobile connections then please get in touch with us as soon as possible.
If you need any additional support during the period of school closure then please don’t hesitate to contact us via Class Dojo, office email or phone call to the office and the relevant member of staff will then make contact with you. I will also carry on writing the weekly newsletter, which will be sent home to keep you informed with any notices.
In the meantime, thank you once again, keep safe and we all look forward to the time when we can welcome all our children back into school with smiley, happy faces.
Mr A Blackburn
