At the start of each year two children from each class in Year 1 and Year 2 are chosen by their classmates to be their School Council representatives. The School Council members chosen by their classmates are introduced to the whole school during a celebration of Collective Worship and presented with their red fleeces which make they easily identifiable to everyone in school.
The School Council meet every fortnight in the Diamond Room and have an agenda to discuss. A Chairperson and a Vice Chairperson are appointed at the first meeting.
The role of School Councillor is an opportunity for pupils to get involved in the way the school is run; communicating their feelings, influencing decisions that are made whilst also helping each individual pupil to develop skills such as self-confidence and negotiation tactics. They feed back any relevant information to their class members and their first very important task is to support the appointment of Playground Buddies.
